Since 2011, Mundo Sano, has conducted screening campaigns among the Latin American community residing in Spain. The purpose of this is to contribute to timely detection and early beginning of treatment for Chagas disease.

These campaigns are undertaken in cooperation with local hospitals in Murcia, Alicante and Barcelona and with Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII: “Carlos III” Health Care Institute), in Madrid.

Although a non endemic area, Spain is estimated to have between 55,000 and 100,000 Chagas cases.
